Barbies, Bowels, and Bartering

Yes today has been filled with Barbies, bowel issues for Addie, and bartering once again for Bayley. Today all the babies who came to the White Swan yesterday received their complimentary Mattel Barbie carrying a Chinese baby girl. We showed the doll to Addie, and she flung it to the floor. Probably because she couldn't identify with me not looking quite enough like Barbie. In the playroom today, Addie again was frightened of the toys but did seem very intrigued by an older boy's temper tantrum. One toy we predict Addie will like is a puppet. When Bayley puts a sock on her hand and makes noises, Addie is quite amused.

The main issue today was that Addie had not had a bowel movement since last Friday, and she was not comfortable. Probably it is the iron in the formula, but as you know we are not changing from the American formula. At last tonight, we had a true explosion. It freaked Bayley out. Addie is resting much more comfortably now.

Moving right along from bowel explosions to food, we can say that supper this evening was wonderful. We went to Lucy's, known for its American cuisine, and I had the BLT that was in my dreams several nights ago. It was delicious. Bayley dreamily ate her fried chicken and french fries, and Addie smacked her lips often on her grilled cheese. We enjoyed dinner with the other Living Hope family we met in Beijing. Their little girl is adorable, and like us they were incredibly pleased with the food.

After dinner Bayley had another wonderful bartering night with the vendors along our street. She is so like her Uncle Jeremy. We now have enough Chinese fans and chopsticks to last quite some time. In the shops Addie makes very quiet humming noises as she reaches for things on the shelves. Yesterday she pulled several candy bars from the display counter at the 7-11 store. This evening she pulled at any dresses we strolled by. While on the street, we heard news that a typhoon is headed our way this evening and tomorrow. Winds are expected to be strong with very heavy rains. Hopefully things will be clear and not delay anything with our flight for early Thursday morning. Our big event tomorrow with be an oath ceremony at the U.S Consulate, and then packing all those fans and chopsticks Bayley has accumlated on market days.

We are counting the hours and thinking of home.

Wow. Things are moving along. Uncle Ben has been wanting to get the perfect toy gift so I shall tell him about a puppet. We are in Portland with Addie's great grammie getting her surgery for tummy. She will be relieved and happy to hear you got the food you desired. I might not tell her Re: the typhoon. She will be relieved to hear that we don't have a constipated baby.Sounds like she is learning to shop. Takes after you Britt!! Bay as always you are experiencing much. I can't wait to see you all. Stay safe ....not much longer...love to all, Mom and Dad.

mawglgtReally enjoyed the blog today, it sounds like you are all feeling better and more enjoying your new surroundings. I'm sure you're as anxious to get home as everyone is to get you home. Continue to stay safe, and also hope you have a good flight home.

p.s. Enjoy the heat while you can, we have gotten a few bad frosts already.

It's so great to know that you can start counting the HOURS now until you are on your way home!!! Glad Addie is feeling better. Abigail was in to visit us yesterday...how absolutely adorable she is!!! When they came by my office, I was showing Elizabeth the pictures of Abigail and Addie that we posted outside the door and Abigail was laughing & pointing at her picture. When we showed her Addie's picture, she starting leaning forward, pointing to her and laughing. We told her that the picture was of her new friend, Addie!! We can't wait to have you home and settled down to begin your new life together.

Love,
Mary

Shopping and bowels (and ice cream)..........she is so much a part of this family that it isn't even funny! It's like it has absorbed into her through osmosis or something!

Can't wait for you to be on your way. Yikes about the typhoon. Gary will be pacing, I'm sure. Probably a good idea not to tell Aunt Win until you are home.

Be careful. I can't believe the adventures you will be able to share with us!

Love you,
Nick, Todd, Brynn, and Myah

PS - I think we are counting the hours at this point. It's not many at all!

I had to use a scraper this morning to get the ice off my windshield so PLEASE bring some warm weather home with you! I am counting down the HOURS (as apparently is everyone else) until you three are finally on your way home! Hopefully, if all goes well, I will be able to see the new addition sometime this weekend! Keep dry inside the hotel tonight! Have a safe flight!

Uncle Wade and Aunt Kathy are interested in your journey and can't wait to meet little Addie. How lucky she is to have a big sister and brothers to make her transition into the family easier. So happy that she is finally here. Can't wait to meet her!

Have a safe trip home, see you when you get here.

Lots of love,
Uncle Wade and Auntie

Well, this journey will soon come to an end (thankfully) and a new one will begin with introducing Addie to the new world she'll be a part of. I know you must be so home sick...I would be...but with the end in sight and all the wonderful experiences you and Bayley have had will remain with you forever! Everyone is very anxious for you to be safely back in the U.S. and to meet the newest member of the Ray-Smith family. I'll be praying for you all on your long journey home!
Love, Dawn

Sooooo, was it the pear juice? Either that or the sheer volume of the liquids she consumed :) Woooo Hooo - baby's belly is better :)

We were giggling last night, wondering what you'd get to experience after dinner and all that juice :)

See ya later today.

Bayley....if you were really like your Uncle you would try to sell those fans for a profit!

See you this weekend!
