We've Been Flooded

Things are a bit crazy here now. We woke this morning, and I didn't hear the wind. I said to myself that things or the typhoon must have passed in a different direction. No such luck. The heavy rains in the night flooded the island we are staying on. Business men and women are forced to walk the streets in water up to their knees. The same shops we bartered in last evening are flooded, with water damage to much on their shelves. The bad thing is that the typhoon hasn't really arrived yet. So we are very unsure what this means if more rains are on the way. If we flood even more, I fear we won't be able to leave the island for tomorrow's flight to Hong Kong.

This afternoon we are heading to the U.S. Consulate appointment off the island by bus, and we hear that for the moment the waters have receded a bit. Our Living Hope friends were not as lucky. Their daughter had a medical exam scheduled for this morning, and they were forced to walk in the knee deep waters to the clinic. Based on their report it was truly scary, as the water brought out giant earthworms. Dead cockroaches were floating everywhere, along with feminine products and other unmentionable things. I am horrified. As a precaution this family started their antibiotics. Hopefully Bayley and I and the baby can avoid the water, but even if and when the sun comes out we are told to stay off the streets, because they are still filled with germs.

On a positive note, Addie is not stressed at all- as long as she can have the whole box of Ritz crackers.

4 hours later - we are back from the Consulate. It went well and we were told they will get us to our flight no matter what. We leave the hotel at 5:30 am and hopefully this is our last post from China. We can't wait to bring Addie to her home and meet family and friends in just a few days. Our total travel time from leaving the hotel here until we reach Bangor is a little over 30 hours. Yes!!! We're coming home!!

This is it...It's done and over with and you are finally coming home where you all belong..What a scary thing to have been made to walk in the flood waters...Thankfully you were able to avoid it...Addie is reminding me more and more of Jo-Jo every day (especially with wanting the whole box of Ritz for herself!) She is definitely going to fit right in! Be safe and try to have a good flight back to the states. I can't wait to see you all this weekend! Love and miss you more than ever now!

Thankfully you were spared the awful water. Someone is looking out for you all. We are praying that the last leg of the journey is over in no time. What will we do with no post in the am.?? Stay together and know that when you get home you can rest. Jo-Jo and Tom have been wonderful little boys during the wait.Ron does a remarkable job too.Whenever I check in his housekeeping and duties have all been done!! We just spend our time then fussing over the photos and posts from you guys. We think Addie is a bit like Jo-Jo already and I made a joke to Tommy that she is alot like him about books...."voracious"....he smiled that wonderful smile and nodded.Bayley will need a break but she has been a trooper...I know she will continue to be a super big sister...too bad the Mattel people would'nt take the Barbie thing one step further...how about making a doll that is the "big sister"...I see a plan forming already...oh well, I must go and busy myself and try to WAIT for one more day until you guys are home.Kisses hugs and all the prayers and wishes for safe travel. Love,Mom and Dad

ifIt's so scary to see the picture and hear about the typhoon coming through. Every time I hear about these weather situations, including all the hurricanes and tornadoes here in the states, it makes me so grateful to live in Maine, despite the miserably cold winters! Soon your journey will end and we all will be very glad when you are safely back on Maine soil. There are so many prayers for you all right now that I'm sure they will lift and carry you safely back to us.
Love, Dawn

I can't believe this is it...no more racing to my computer in the morning to check out the newest post...what will I do?!?! I was really worried about the weather and afraid it would delay your flight plans and I know how disappointed you guys would have been but thankfully that isn't an issue! We can't wait to see you guys and know that you are once again safe on the ground!

Love & prayers,
Mary

I'm so glad you are finally on the last leg of this trip. Also very happy to hear you are all OK and that they are getting you a flight out not matter what. Addie is just adorable and very interested in all that's around her. She certainly is fitting in with all of her snack habits--a true American.

I agree with Mary--it's a rush to check the computer every morning awaiting the next post. This has been a great experience. I'm not sure we could have managed without any contact during this long trip. Can't wait to see you all when you get home. Elizabeth and Abigail were visiting school earlier this week. She is adorable too. What fun it will be for the two of them to have each other--I'm sure they will be best buds. Hopefully the next time we chat it will be in person. Have a safe flight home.

Love, Dawn
